Erin Jackson: Engineering a Skating Champion from the Rink to the Ice
Published by Team USA
Though ice wasn’t much of a feature when Olympic Gold Medalist, Erin Jackson, was growing up in central Florida, she’s been skating “since I’ve been able to walk adequately,” she said with a warm laugh.
After all, you don’t necessarily need ice to be a skater.
Jackson recalls her mother, also an avid skater, strapping her feet into plastic yellow and blue Fisher-Price roller skates, then taking them on a spin on the driveway.

“I’m about 70 pounds less now,” Gary smiled. That’s huge!
“I was huge,” Gary laughed, “but not anymore.”
He kept track of the progress of his good days and bad days, and watched the pounds slip away. Gary still keeps up with tracking his food–and his exercise. His routine includes speed walking on the treadmill, rowing, biking and climbing the stairs, with an emphasis on “not hurting myself.”
Adharanand Finn, on Writing The Rise of the Ultra Runners
Adharanand Finn initially set out to complete an assignment about ultramarathons for The Guardian. What happened next involved a two-year journey comprised of hundreds of miles captured not in an article, but in a book, The Rise of the Ultra Runners: A Journey to the Edge of Human Endurance.
Once he decided a book was due course, he scheduled ten races. His narrative takes readers on a journey across scorching sand, over jagged mountains and across luscious moors.
His final destination? The Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc (UTMB), a 106-mile race through the (literally) breathtaking French Alps.

“Caroline was a regular contributor to the Authors section of Spine Magazine during my stint as editor. Not only did she turn in thoroughly researched and well-written pieces, but she also generated great story ideas.
She is a strong independent worker, able to juggle many items at once, and understands how to incorporate editorial feedback into her pieces without needing hand-holding. Working with Caroline was always a breeze, from her creative story pitches to her final pieces."
